shows their three daughters, from left to right:-
Elizabeth
(Bessie) who married Andrew Cooke and lived in Ridgeway (Lion) House.
Lydia who
married Charles Webster, a sickle and reaping hook maker and lived at
number 10.
Gladys who
lived with her parents in Ridgeway House.
The three
elder sons from left to right:-
Dolling, who
enlisted with the 16th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters in
November 1915 and died of wounds 20th November 1916 age 21.
He is buried in the Puchevillers British Cemetery, Somme, France. Grave
reference VI.F.18.
George, a
sickle and reaping hook maker at the Phoenix Works, married Charlotte
Habberjam the village school caretaker and lived at High Lane.
Harold,
enlisted with the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters in
September 1914 and was killed in action 5th April 1916 age
23. He is buried in Aveluy Communal Cemetry Extension, Somme, France,
grave reference D.17.
The three
younger sons from left to right:-
Joseph, my
Father, manager of the Phoenix Works, married Muriel Keable and moved to
Gleadless Town End.
Rufus
(seated), became a woodworking machinist and moved to Birmingham.
Stanley,
became an engineer, married Doris Smedley and lived in Ridgeway House.
